Fairly recently I made a promise to myself: I am not going to travel for the rest of the year.
Travel is something I absolutely love. I’ve said time and time again that it’s all I really want to spend my money on and for the past year that’s what I’ve done.
So what‘s changed?
2014 has been a good year for travel for me
To be honest: not much. I still love travelling as much as I ever have, but I’ve reached a point that so many bloggers I follow have written about – I just need a bit of a break.
Over summer, I travelled a lot. All in all, I did five trips in four months. And not all small city breaks either – I did my first road trip, my first press trip and a two-week backpacking sprint through the Balkans.
Thanks to all this travelling, I can look back at 2014 already and know that it has probably been my best year for travel – ever.
The only downside is, I have a lot of catching up to do. Having been to so many amazing places, I have a lot I want to share – but there are still things I want to write about from my trip in January, not to mention all those since.
So, the time has come to stay put for a while – and surprisingly, I feel really good about it. I’m still planning away for 2015, and I’m hoping to visit a few Christmas markets here in Germany, but for now, not travelling feels like a welcome change.

P.s. Since making this promise to myself, I flew to London twice in the space of five days – but that was for work, so it totally doesn’t count…
You still need to come to Finland though. But you can do it in 2015, it’s fine! 😛
2015 could be the year!
Of course it doesn’t count. 😛 I won’t travel until the end of the year either, because I’m saving for some good stuff next year and hopefully I’ll go somewhere in January or February.
I’m trying to save money too but it isn’t going very well… Are you thinking of anywhere in particular?
I have two ideas, not sure IF they will come true though: Brussels in January for my bf’s birthday (because those cheap tickets are super tempting) or Rome in February (because I had promised mom we’d go one day). I’m fairly certain both trips won’t happen so I’m hoping I’d have one of them to look forward until Eurovision.
That’s what I said when I finished my project related travels this year… then came a Delhi wedding… and now I’m eying flight prices to Europe for a week. 😉
Haha, that sounds familiar… it’s so hard to stay still when you have so many great budget flights at your fingertrips…
And more importantly free places to stay, friends to catch up and activities to indulge in! 🙂
I’m in the same position as you in that I don’t have any more travels for the rest of the year, although that’s not by choice! But it can be a bit exhausting, I agree. Soon enough though I get bored of being in one place and start dreaming of the next… Interested to hear what you’re planning for next year!
I was a bit worried about being bored too, but I think Christmas is the perfect distraction. I will be posting about my 2015 plans soon but at the minute they are changing constantly – could end up being a very expensive year…
I know that feeling! I had a completely manic spring/early summer and another fairly busy autumn (though it’s mostly UK travels so not so exhausting) so need a quiet patch over the summer and winter to catch up on a huge amount of photo editing and post writing. Do quite like having some time relaxing at home – though it’s always better when there’s a trip or two to plan and look forward to!
Definitely agree – I have my trip home for Christmas to look forward to, but without it, I think I would be at a bit of a loose end.
I was a bit worried as to whether I was making the right decision, but I am writing this at the end of what could be described as a perfect weekend, so all is well 🙂

Totally feel you. I will cover more than a dozen destinations by the end of this year, and tho a bunch were for work, and all were pretty great, I feel bad about falling terribly behind in blogging about all of this, and generally a bit knackered. I have just finished my Amsterdam posts – that trip was in July!
